A serious accident occurred at Toronto Pearson International Airport (Canada) on the afternoon of February 17 (local time), when a Delta Air Lines plane flipped over and caught fire during landing, injuring 19 people.

According to information from Peel Regional Emergency Service (Toronto), among the injured, 3 cases are serious, the rest have injuries ranging from mild to moderate.

Delta flight number 4819 departed from St. Paul International Airport (Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA) with a total of 80 people, including 76 passengers and 4 crew members.

All passengers and crew were evacuated after the accident. Flight operations at Pearson Airport were restored after about 3 hours of disruption.

At the time of the accident, the Toronto area was experiencing severe weather conditions with temperatures of -9 degrees Celsius, strong winds and gusts of up to 64 km/h from the west. The area had just experienced heavy snowfall the day before.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) quickly dispatched an investigation team to the scene.

The crashed plane was a Mitsubishi CRJ900 model, manufactured by Bombardier 16 years ago.

Notably, a variant of the same CRJ700 model of American Airlines had an accident when it collided with a US military helicopter in Washington DC on January 29, killing 67 people.
