According to The Sun, British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace has ordered an urgent investigation after learning that a Trident submarine had been repaired improperly.

The Sun said routine checks showed workers had used superglue to reattach some broken bolt heads, which were responsible for securing cooling pipes in the nuclear reactor of the HMS Vanguard.

According to initial information, engineers at defense contractor Babcock apparently damaged the pin heads, but instead of replacing them, they simply glued them back together.

It is known that at least seven bolts on the coolant pipes were treated in the above manner. Such repairs are completely capable of causing a nuclear reactor meltdown.

However, the violation was only discovered in early January 2023 when one of the bolt heads came loose during a routine inspection before the scheduled start-up of the first reactor at full power.

The incident is said to have angered British defense officials. Defense Secretary Wallace has called an urgent meeting and asked relevant parties to ensure quality in the coming time.

A Royal Navy source told The Sun that Mr Wallace was furious that Babcock had failed to report the failed repairs, especially as it was a nuclear-powered warship.

Repairs on HMS Vanguard are already four years behind schedule and about $370 million over budget.
