According to data from the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) power reactor information system, Russia is building more nuclear reactors than any other country.
Data shows that the world has a total of 58 nuclear power reactors under construction, of which 23 are built by Russia.
“Rosatom is building the most nuclear power units outside the country. Interestingly, Rosatom’s direct competitors are three Chinese companies: CNNC, CSPI and CGN. They are building 22 reactors, but mainly in China. The US and Europe are far behind in this regard,” said Alexander Uvarov, director of Atominfo.
Previously, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandr Novak said the government plans to increase the share of nuclear energy in Russia's total energy structure to 25% by 2040. Currently, Russia's nuclear energy production rate is around 20%.
According to authorities, nuclear energy is cheaper, requires less fuel and produces more energy, has low CO2 emissions, and fully meets current climate goals.
