On November 13, Japan's Tohoku Electric Power Company restarted the No. 2 nuclear reactor at the Onagawa Nuclear Power Plant, which was severely damaged in the 2011 Fukushima earthquake and tsunami disaster.

Tohoku Electric Power Company plans to resume power generation from November 19 and begin full commercial operations in December.

The reactor was first restarted on October 29, but was shut down a few days later due to problems installing measuring equipment into the reactor - a process that was in preparation for resuming electricity production.

Specifically, a screw on a joint of a guide tube - designed to carry equipment into the reactor - came loose after a replacement in May.

The Onagawa Nuclear Power Plant was severely damaged in the March 11, 2011, earthquake and tsunami, losing most of its external power supply and suffering flooding in underground facilities.

The plant's reactor, the same type as those at Fukushima, passed inspections in February 2020 under stricter safety standards following the Fukushima accident and has been cleared by local authorities to resume operations.
