On May 7, Deputy Director of Dong Nai Department of Health Vo Thi Ngoc Lam announced the above information, in which most of the patient's samples and food samples taken at Bang bakery (where the products were sold) were contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. Some other samples were contaminated with E.coli bacteria.

Yesterday, Ho Chi Minh City Children's Hospital 2 announced the test results of a child poisoned patient transferred from Dong Nai who was also infected with Salmonella.

Salmonella is the leading cause of diarrhea worldwide, including many large-scale poisonings, according to the World Health Organization. Entering the human body through food and drink, Salmonella produces toxins that damage the intestinal mucosa, causing abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. If not rehydrated promptly, the patient will become dehydrated, have low blood pressure, hypotension, multiple organ failure, and even death. Large amounts of bacteria can enter the bloodstream, causing blood poisoning, which is life-threatening.

Salmonella grows very quickly in hot and humid environments (35-37 degrees Celsius). When slaughtering livestock and poultry, if not cleaned properly, Salmonella bacteria will spread into the environment and stick to foods such as poultry meat and eggs. People can also be infected with Salmonella bacteria by eating raw eggs or poorly boiled eggs. Vegetables and milk are also susceptible to Salmonella spread from animal feces.

E.coli is a bacteria that often appears in fresh produce, beef, fresh milk, fruit juice, cheese, raw fruits and vegetables...

Compared to E.coli, Salmonella poisoning has more severe and dangerous symptoms. Food poisoning caused by Salmonella can appear one day after eating, but there are also cases after 4-5 days.

Previously, on May 3, authorities inspected Bang bakery and sealed the freezer containing about 15 kg of pickles, 1 kg of processed pork, 1 kg of ham, and 4 trays of pate weighing 10 kg each. They also took many samples for testing.

The owner of Bang Bakery said he buys ingredients and food from small retail stores and then processes them at home. These include homemade pate (pork liver, fatty meat), homemade pickles (carrots, white radish), and homemade sauce (including pork broth, seasoning powder, MSG, soy sauce). Other ingredients such as ham, cold cuts, pork, etc. are purchased from other places.

As of today, the number of people poisoned after eating bread in Long Khanh City has increased to 568. They ate meat bread bought at Bang store on the afternoon of April 30, then were hospitalized one after another. Currently, more than 200 patients have been discharged from the hospital, 119 cases are being monitored at home, 12 severe cases had to be transferred to the hospital, and the others are still being treated.

The most serious case is a 6-year-old boy being treated at Children's Hospital 1 in Ho Chi Minh City, in a deep coma, on a ventilator, blood filtration, and vasopressor. Another serious case is a 7-year-old patient being treated at Children's Hospital Dong Nai, whose health is currently improving.

The incident has signs of criminality, so the authorities have transferred the case to Long Khanh City Police for handling and investigation.
