Launching a campaign to equip all Vietnamese people with anti-fraud skills

The Ministry of Information and Communications has just officially launched the campaign "Skills to identify and prevent online fraud to protect people in cyberspace".

This is one of the activities chaired by the Department of Information Security (Ministry of Information and Communications) to respond to National Digital Transformation Day on October 10, and the further goal is to contribute to creating trust so that the majority of people can feel more secure when participating in transactions in the digital environment.

Vietnam currently has a population of more than 100 million, with more than 70 million Internet users. In fact, in the current period of promoting and accelerating digital transformation, bad actors have been taking advantage of the explosion of digital technology and the conveniences it brings such as interactions via social networks, OTT messaging applications, etc. to carry out many online scams and appropriation of high-value assets.

Nowadays, every day and every hour, Vietnamese people are constantly facing the problem of online fraud. Fraudsters find every way to take advantage of and exploit the weakest point, which is people. With sophisticated tricks, fraudsters apply many psychological measures to gain trust and lead according to the script.

According to the Department of Information Security, in the first 9 months of this year, the Vietnam Information Security Warning Portal received more than 22,200 reports from Internet users about online fraud, including 125,330 fake website addresses impersonating agencies and organizations in Vietnam to commit fraud.

In addition to technical measures, raising awareness, along with basic to advanced skills for people, is considered one of the leading measures to help prevent the negative impacts of online fraud.

"When people and vulnerable people master the skills to identify and prevent online fraud, they will be more vigilant, thereby reducing the problem of online fraud that occurs every day," emphasized a representative of the Department of Information Security.

The campaign "Skills to identify and prevent online fraud to protect people in cyberspace" has just been launched, aiming to raise people's awareness to reduce the risks of being scammed in cyberspace, and will be widely deployed from October 10 to November 20.

During this campaign, the Department of Information Security will coordinate with central ministries, branches, localities, information security enterprises, online service providers, social networking platforms and press agencies nationwide to disseminate and equip people with skills to identify and prevent online fraud.

Specifically, the agencies and units participating in the campaign will focus on equipping people with 5 main groups of skills that have been specifically instructed by the Department of Information Security in the "Handbook of skills to identify and prevent online fraud" including: Recognition skills, detection skills, handling skills, prevention skills and protection skills. For each group of skills, the handbook provides from basic skills to advanced skills.

“Preventing fraud in cyberspace is not only the responsibility of state management agencies but also the common responsibility of the whole society. Self-protection in cyberspace is a never-ending journey, requiring vigilance and continuous efforts. Each person needs to grasp the necessary knowledge and skills to become a safe and smart user in cyberspace," said a representative of the Department of Information Security.
