Meta's communication campaign will focus on 6 out of 24 forms of online fraud identified by the Information Security Department as hot spots in Vietnam.
Recognizing that ensuring the safety of social media users, including improving their skills in identifying and preventing online scams, is a major challenge that requires a multi-stakeholder approach from government agencies, law enforcement agencies, and all social media platforms.
Meta Group and the Department of Information Security, Ministry of Information and Communications launched the "Scam Identification" campaign, which will be held for the first time in Vietnam in 2024, to share with the social network user community useful ways to prevent online scams.
The "Identify Fraud" communication campaign will focus on 6 out of 24 forms of online fraud identified by the Department of Information Security as hot spots in Vietnam, such as: Investment fraud; Employment fraud; Financial fraud; Loan fraud; Lottery fraud; Impersonation fraud.
The campaign will include a series of images and short videos on how to identify and handle online scams posted on Meta's social media platforms and the National Cyber Portal of the Information Security Department as well as on Meta's Digital Age Thinking website.
In particular, the campaign will also have the participation of famous content creators in Vietnam, aiming to spread good and easy-to-remember tips so that everyone can learn and protect themselves from the risks of fraud in the online environment.
As one of the two main partners of the program, Mr. Nguyen Phu Luong, Deputy Director of the National Cyber Security Monitoring Center (NCSC), Department of Information Security, shared that social networks are fertile ground for cybercriminals to commit fraud, because with just one minute of subjectivity, negligence and lack of knowledge, people can fall into the trap at any time.
With the "Scam Detection" campaign in collaboration with Meta, NCSC aims to equip every digital citizen with the ability to self-identify scam traps and improve their self-protection skills in cyberspace.
Raising public awareness of online fraud is one of the top priorities of the Information Security Department. When every citizen and every vulnerable group knows how to identify and be more vigilant against fraud, it will help reduce online fraud to some extent in the future.
“The safety and security of our users on our platforms is our top priority. We are committed to preventing fraudulent activities that impact our users’ experience and educating them about them,” said Ruici Tio, APAC Safety Policy Program Manager, Meta Group.
In 2023, Meta launched the first phase of its Vietnam-specific Fraud Detection campaign, reaching millions of users and attracting hundreds of thousands of visits to Meta's Digital Mindset Online Safety Portal.
This year’s cooperation program with the Information Security Department aims to continue improving the skills of Vietnamese people in identifying and dealing with online scams. Meta wants all users to proactively equip themselves with knowledge about the importance of being vigilant against online scams.
