Covered by clouds all year round, Lung Cung peak (Yen Bai) is immersed in a layer of silver clouds, like a heavenly oasis in the sea of clouds and is increasingly becoming famous as one of the best cloud hunting spots in Vietnam.
When it comes to "cloud hunting," people often think of names like Sa Pa (Lao Cai), Y Ty (Lao Cai), Ta Xua (Son La). Sin Ho (Lai Chau), Ta Chi Nhu (Yen Bai), Ma Pi Leng (Ha Giang)...
But there is another name that also possesses an equally wild beauty when the "sea of clouds" surrounds the foot of the mountain all year round, that is Lung Cung peak (Yen Bai).
Lung Cung Peak is 2,913m high, ranked 9th in the top 10 highest mountains in Vietnam, named after a village located deep in the most rugged mountains in Nam Co commune, Mu Cang Chai district, Yen Bai, and this is a beautiful route for trekking.

Lung Cung Peak is overwhelming with views from four directions, airy and easy to see the sea of clouds. On the top of the mountain there are vast hillsides in strong winds.
Each season of the year, Lung Cung possesses a different beauty. Depending on the time of climbing, visitors have the opportunity to pass through forests of white hawthorn flowers, bamboo forests covered with mysterious moss or rocks, old trees nestled in the wind with the majestic beauty that nature has bestowed upon this place.
However, with an altitude of nearly 3,000m, visitors will need to climb to reach the top of Lung Cung. Therefore, you should prepare yourself for a rather arduous trip.
When should I go to Lung Cung?
On the way to Lung Cung, visitors will pass through many villages and famous beautiful places of the Northwest such as Khau Pha, Che Cu Nha, Thao Chua Chai, Mu Cang Chai, Ta Co Y Valley...
According to experience, tourists should not come to Lung Cung from May to August because at that time it is the rainy season, the roads are very muddy, landslides easily occur, and the rain in the forest makes many trails disappear, making it easy for inexperienced tourists to get lost.
Tourists should visit Lung Cung from January to early April. Like other Northwestern regions, in spring plum and peach blossoms bloom all over the mountains and forests, a typical landscape of the Northwestern mountains and forests.
There may not be any sun at the bottom of the mountain, but at the top, above the thick fog, there is a clear blue sky and bright sunshine. Around March and early April is the best time to go cloud hunting here.
September and October are the season of ripe rice and wild apples. The journey through Mu Cang Chai will leave you in awe with the most beautiful terraced fields in Vietnam. You also cannot miss Lung Cung village, famous for its more than 3,000 ancient wild apple trees that will ripen fragrantly throughout the mountains and forests.
On the way to conquer Lung Cung peak in November and December, visitors will pass through Ta Co Y valley, where there are beautiful purple flower fields. All over the mountain slopes are wild sunflowers blooming brilliantly yellow.
You can choose to go for 2 days 1 night or 2 days 2 nights. Visitors can climb in 3 different directions: Thao Chua Chai village, Lung Cung village or Tu San village. The costs will not arise much because there are not many services here, while the prices are quite cheap.
How much does the trip cost?
Fixed moving costs:To reach Lung Cung peak, visitors will travel from Hanoi to Tu Le by private car, bus or motorbike. But if you go by bus, you can catch the bus at My Dinh bus station with an average ticket price of about 600,000 VND/person round trip.
To get to the climbing point, follow the direction of Tu San village, Nam Co commune. From Tu Le to the motorbike parking spot is about 12-13km, traveling about 1 hour. This is the most difficult part of the trip.
Next, from Lung Cung village, you can book a car with a round trip price of 400,000 VND/person.
Thus, the fixed travel cost will be around 1 million VND/person. However, tourists should still prepare some extra cash to prevent unexpected costs.
Accommodation costs:If you only climb Lung Cung and then return, you only need to spend 1 night in Tu Le (about 100,000 VND/night). Otherwise, 1 night on the mountain top at a hut costs about 50,000-100,000 VND/person.
Food costs:About 1 million VND (for 2 days). Most local guesthouses serve sticky rice and egg noodles. If not, you can also choose to eat vermicelli or pho nearby, for about 30,000 VND/bowl.
The rest of the main meals of the day will only cost about 200,000-300,000 VND/person.
