Opening of the 10th National Phu Dong Sports Festival in 2024

On the evening of July 28, at Lach Tray Stadium - Hai Phong City, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) in coordination with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the People's Committee of Hai Phong City solemnly held the opening ceremony of the 10th National Phu Dong Sports Festival (HKPĐ) in 2024.

Attending the ceremony, the Central delegates included comrades: Le Thanh Long, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister; Nguyen Dac Vinh, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the National Assembly Standing Committee, Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for Culture and Education; Nguyen Kim Son, member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Education and Training; Nguyen Thi Kim Chi, Deputy Minister of Education and Training, Head of the Steering Committee for the 10th National Youth Union Congress; Hoang Dao Cuong - Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; representatives of departments, branches, unions, central agencies and representatives of leaders of 63 provinces and cities.

On the side of Hai Phong city, there were comrades: Le Tien Chau, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Hai Phong City Party Committee; Nguyen Van Tung, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Hai Phong City People's Committee.

Especially the presence of leaders of the Department of Education and Training, coaches and athletes from 63 provinces and cities representing students nationwide participating in the Sports Festival.

The National Sports Festival is directed by the Government, assigned to the Ministry of Education and Training to coordinate with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the People's Committees of provinces and centrally run cities to organize and implement. This is the largest sports festival for school youth, held every 4 years.

HKPĐ aims to continue to maintain and promote the campaign "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho", encourage high school students to regularly practice and compete in sports in schools to improve health, develop physical fitness, contributing to comprehensive development; at the same time, discover the talents and sports abilities of high school students towards nurturing and training sports talents for the country; summarize and evaluate physical education and school sports activities.

The 10th HKPĐ in 2024 with the theme "Phu Dong Youth - Firm Steps to the Future", was held in Hai Phong City. The opening program was broadcast live on VTV1 by Vietnam Television.

The National Sports Festival in Hai Phong City was held from July 25 to August 6. Athletes from 63 provinces and centrally-run cities participated, competing for 217 sets of medals in 15 sports: swimming, table tennis, volleyball, football, basketball, badminton, chess, shuttlecock, athletics, karate, tug of war, taekwondo, aerobics, vovinam, and traditional martial arts.

This is an opportunity for students to exchange, learn, share experiences and raise awareness about sports training and physical development. In the spirit of noble sportsmanship, the congress is a place to help strengthen solidarity and cooperation among participating units.

In his opening speech, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son informed: After more than 40 years of implementation with 10 congresses, the 2024 National Sports Festival is the largest school sports festival ever with more than 20,000 student athletes and officials from 63 provinces and cities competing in 15 sports.

The recent successes of the HKPĐ at all levels are the result of the close direction and investment of the leaders of the Party committees, local authorities and educational institutions, and the care of families, parents, coaches and the whole society. But first and foremost, the awareness of physical training and physical training among students nationwide has increased significantly.

"On behalf of the leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training, I officially assign tasks to all student athletes, referees and organizers: with the highest conscience and responsibility, to ensure that the 10th HKPĐ takes place safely, honestly, courageously, nobly and with the highest educational spirit, so that this HKPĐ is truly an impressive, memorable and proud sports festival", Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son emphasized.

Speaking at the 10th National Sports Festival, Mr. Nguyen Van Tung, Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee happily shared: In the past 9 Sports Festivals, the Hai Phong City student athletes' delegation has always achieved high results, ranked in the top 10 best delegations. At the 10th Sports Festival in 1996 in Hai Phong City, the Hai Phong delegation excellently ranked 2nd nationwide. In the recent Regional 2 National Sports Festival in Thai Nguyen Province, the Hai Phong City athletes' delegation also excellently won 2nd place in the region with 28 gold medals, 28 silver medals, and 47 bronze medals.

"With these results, Hai Phong city has fully converged the factors of economic development, cultural and social development, education and training development, physical education and sports development, so that Hai Phong can firmly step on the path of development.

The youth of Hai Phong city are making great efforts to study and practice to build Hai Phong into a leading city in the cause of industrialization and modernization; a driving force for the development of the Northern region and the whole country.
