Coach Kim Sang-sik called up 3 players from Nam Dinh Club to the Vietnam national team to prepare for the AFF Cup (ASEAN Cup) 2024 after a training trip to Korea.
The last 3 players called up to the Vietnam national team to prepare for the AFF Cup 2024 are Nguyen Van Toan, Nguyen Van Vi and Nguyen Xuan Son. Of these, naturalized striker Nguyen Xuan Son has just been licensed by the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) to play in this year's tournament.
Meanwhile, with Nguyen Van Toan being called up to the Vietnam national team, coach Kim Sang-sik will likely eliminate a winger from the Korean training squad. In the case of Van Vi, Mr. Kim has no viable option on the left wing. Van Khang has not met the requirements, while Van Thanh and Tan Tai are both right-footed defenders.
The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) said that Nam Dinh players will not have to go to Korea for training, they will be given priority to play for the Thien Truong Stadium team in the AFC Champions League Two (Asian Cup C2). 3 Nam Dinh players will join the national team on December 5 and then travel to Laos with the whole team a day later.
Coach Kim Sang-sik said: "The Vietnamese team wants to reach the AFF Cup final. That is the expectation of all Vietnamese fans, the whole team and myself. To do that, we need to try our best starting from the opening match against Laos and try to win every match.
The players and I understand the love of football of the Vietnamese people. We will make sure to meet everyone's expectations with good results at the upcoming AFF Cup. We need everyone's support."
Vietnam is in Group B with the Philippines, Indonesia, Myanmar and Laos. Coach Kim Sang-sik and his team are aiming to reach the final of the tournament. Vietnam will play their opening match against Laos on December 8. The official list of 26 players for the tournament will be announced on December 4.
