The discontinuation of the Honda Super Cub 50 may cause regret for many people.
According to the online edition of Japan's best-selling auto magazine, Best Car Web, the 50cc Honda Super Cub is about to be discontinued.
This is due to the emission regulations for motorcycles that will be applied from November 2025 in Japan. There are also regulations that motorcycles must have additional lights.
Currently, the only official Honda Super Cub sold in Vietnam is the 125cc version. However, the 50cc version is still available through private imports or for sale on the used car market. Because of its compact capacity, this model is often bought by parents for their children.
Although Honda has not confirmed it, Yamaha and Suzuki have both spoken out. Therefore, if nothing changes, the Super Cub 50 will inevitably end up in a museum. It is unclear whether this will affect the distribution of the Honda Super Cub 50 in other markets.
According to Best Car Web, 50cc motorbikes are difficult to change to meet the new regulations, because the high cost can easily lead to high selling prices. Meanwhile, the demand is not high enough, because consumers have started to prefer models with higher engine capacity, which better meet travel needs.
As one of Honda's most iconic motorcycles, the Super Cub 50 is likely to have a special "final" edition to mark its end. Details such as price and release date have yet to be revealed.
Those who miss the Super Cub 50 may find solace in a new Honda motorcycle. According to Best Car Web, the company is working on a motorcycle based on the Super Cub 100 but sharing the bodywork of the Super Cub 50, with an engine rated at 5.3 horsepower or less. Electric motors are also reportedly being considered.
Japanese newspapers claim that Honda will recreate history on the final Super Cub 50 model by recreating the first generation color. After excluding red, one of the three possible options is light blue, light brown, and light green.
