More than 122,000 university students passed the entrance exam but dropped out

On the evening of August 27, the Ministry of Education and Training announced that this year, the whole country had 733,600 candidates applying for university admission. The number of successful candidates in the first round was nearly 673,600.

By the end of the admission confirmation period on the ministry's system - at 5:00 p.m. on August 27, 81.87% of candidates were officially admitted because they completed all procedures, an increase of 1.53% compared to last year.

More than 122,000 candidates passed the exam but did not confirm their admission. According to regulations, if they do not have a valid reason, their results will be canceled. If they want to enter university, they must participate in additional admissions or re-register for admission in the following years.

In 2024, there will be about 20 university admission methods. With the consideration of high school graduation exam scores, the standard score ranges from 14 to 29.3 points, led by the Literature and History Pedagogy major of Hanoi National University of Education.

On the sidelines of the year-end conference on August 19, Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Director of the Department of Higher Education, assessed that university admissions were safe and effective. However, the early admission process raised some concerns about fairness. The ministry will review and evaluate this issue to make adjustments next year.

According to the ministry's schedule, from August 28, schools that are short of quotas can post additional recruitment. However, for nearly a week now, a series of schools have been doing this with quotas ranging from a few dozen to thousands.

With more than 122,000 candidates dropping out of school, the number of schools and additional enrollment quotas is expected to continue to increase. The Ministry allows schools to enroll additional students until December.

Last year, the number of candidates who dropped out of the first round of admission was 118,000.
