St. Pauli, the famous wartime bunker in Hamburg, has been transformed into a green oasis with a hotel, restaurant and lush walkways leading to a rooftop garden.

Built by Adolf Hitler in 1940 after air raids on Berlin, the St. Pauli bunker housed up to 25,000 people during the war. Over the decades, it has been used for a variety of purposes, including emergency housing and a nightclub. Pictured here is the newly completed St. Pauli, a landmark of Hamburg's troubled past
In early July, the St. Pauli bunker reopened with a new look, including a hotel, restaurant, cafe, and a rooftop park. The idea for the greening of the building came from local entrepreneur Mathias Müller Using, who was inspired by the High Line - an elevated park in New York and the Niterói Contemporary Art Museum in Rio de Janeiro. The rooftop park features thousands of trees and plants, creating a green oasis in the heart of the city.
One of the highlights of the project is the rooftop garden with trees and flowers, creating a relaxing space in the heart of the city. This is where residents and visitors can come to enjoy fresh air with a panoramic view of Hamburg city.
Called Hotel Reverb by Hard Rock, the 134-room hotel features a modern design, high-tech integration and is pet-friendly.
The hotel also has a co-working space, convenient for tourists and local residents.
Rooms at Reverb by Hard Rock combine industrial and natural styles. Weekend room rates start at around 500 euros (nearly 14 million VND), which is considered quite high by Hamburg standards.
The newly expanded section of the bunker also houses La Sala restaurant, Karo & Paul bar and restaurant, and Constant Grind cafe (pictured). The bunker also provides a creative space where artists and designers can work and exhibit their work. It is an environment that encourages creativity and innovation, contributing to a vibrant arts community that attracts visitors.
The hotel also has a variety of dining options, from fine dining restaurants to cozy cafes. Guests can enjoy a variety of dishes, from local to international cuisine.
In addition to the rooftop garden, the building also features small gardens with trees and rich vegetation indoors and outdoors. The species are selected and cared for by landscape designers and gardeners to suit Hamburg's unique terrain and weather conditions. Since 2019, more than 23,000 trees, shrubs and perennials have been planted on the former bunker site.
The bunker also includes a sports hall and concert hall, which can accommodate up to 2,200 people. The renovation project also includes a memorial and information center to commemorate the history of the structure.
The renovated St. Pauli not only gives Hamburg a new look, but also contributes to the goal of sustainable development. Renewable energy systems such as solar panels and a rainwater management system have been integrated to minimize environmental impact. Before the renovation, St. Pauli attracted thousands of visitors each year, becoming an indispensable part of anyone visiting the city. With a perfect combination of history and modernity, the new oasis emerging from the building is a highlight of revival and sustainability, inspiring many other cities around the world, attracting many visitors in Hamburg
