Doctor Trinh Minh Hiep, Director of Nguyen Dinh Chieu General Hospital, said that recently, the hospital has received many cases of alcohol poisoning, many of which were already in serious condition and died when they arrived at the hospital.
According to Dr. Hiep, the abuse and use of alcohol of unknown origin can cause addiction, reduce brain activity, cause loss of consciousness, affect the cardiovascular system, etc. In addition, alcohol abuse can cause traffic accidents, conflicts, and conflicts in society. Drinking too much too quickly can cause acute poisoning; prolonged drinking can cause chronic poisoning. In addition, drinking alcohol that does not ensure quality, with a high Methanol content exceeding the permitted standard, can cause acute poisoning, cell damage, especially to the eyes and brain, blindness and can lead to death. Drinking alcohol with a concentration exceeding the permitted concentration or alcohol of unknown origin, abusing alcohol can easily cause acute alcohol poisoning, directly affecting the entire body, especially the nervous system.
Doctor Hiep recommends that to ensure your health, everyone should limit alcohol consumption (it is best not to drink). If you do drink alcohol, choose alcohol that is safe for food and drink only a small amount. Do not drink alcohol if you do not know what kind of alcohol it is or if the origin is unknown.
Previously, in August 2022, in An Hiep commune (Ba Tri district), there were consecutive cases of alcohol poisoning that killed 3 people, many of whom had to be hospitalized, seriously affecting their health. According to the sample testing report of the Ho Chi Minh City Institute of Public Health, the alcohol sample that caused poisoning and killed 3 people had a Methanol content of 10,714,286 mg/l, 5,357 times higher than the permitted standard.
