Hai Duong strives to reduce 50% of waste to be treated in rural areas

Hai Duong province has 70,000 households classifying waste at source and requires localities to continue increasing the number of households doing so, striving to reduce 50% of waste that must be treated in rural areas.

According to the report of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Hai Duong currently generates about 1,297 tons of solid waste per day and night. 3 waste treatment plants have burned and destroyed about 546 tons per day, accounting for about 42%. Of which, APT-Seraphin Environmental Joint Stock Company processes 200 tons per day; Hai Duong Urban Works Management Joint Stock Company processes 320 tons per day; Minh Phuc Green Environment Joint Stock Company processes 26 tons per day.

The province has about 70,000 households that have classified solid waste at source. The amount of waste after classification that must be transferred to the treatment plant has decreased by about 50%, equivalent to about 76 tons/day, accounting for 6%.

In addition, household waste is also buried in 384 local landfills with a volume of about 675 tons/day, accounting for 52%.

Hai Duong Provincial Party Committee has agreed to the investment policy of APT-Seraphin Environmental Joint Stock Company in a waste-to-energy plant with a capacity of about 1,000 tons/year. According to the company's implementation plan, when the provincial People's Committee approves the investment proposal, the plant will be built in 2025 and put into operation after 18 months.

While waiting for the construction of a centralized domestic waste treatment plant, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment recommends that localities perform well the activity of classifying waste at source, minimizing the amount of waste that must be transported to the treatment plant. For rural areas, strive to reduce 50% of the amount of waste that must be treated; for urban areas that do not classify food waste, reduce 15% of the amount of waste that must be treated. The total amount of waste that must be treated in the province after classification strives to be about 861 tons/day, a decrease of 436 tons/day compared to present.
