Two children in Ca Mau died of dengue fever and hand, foot and mouth disease

The Ca Mau Department of Health has directed Tran Van Thoi General Hospital and Ca Mau Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital to review the child's death to gain experience in the process of receiving and treating patients.

On October 6, the Ca Mau Department of Health reported two cases of child deaths due to dengue fever and hand, foot and mouth disease; at the same time, it recommended relevant agencies to implement solutions to monitor, control and effectively treat diseases in children.

Specifically, for the case of patient NTT (10 years old, living in Hamlet 2, Song Doc town, Tran Van Thoi district) who died of dengue shock, the Department of Health of Ca Mau organized surveillance of dengue fever in related areas; directed Tran Van Thoi General Hospital and Ca Mau Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital to review the death of the patient to gain experience in the process of receiving and handling the patient.

Also according to information from the Department of Health, the Provincial Center for Disease Control has coordinated with the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital and the Thoi Binh District Medical Center to investigate and supervise the handling of the death caused by hand, foot and mouth disease of a 3-year-old patient in Tri Phai commune.

To improve the capacity to handle similar cases, the Department of Health has requested the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital to promptly organize a meeting of the Scientific Council to review, analyze, and re-evaluate the entire course of the case; continue to report to the Department of Health for consideration; at the same time, continue to coordinate, consult, and learn treatment experiences from Children's Hospital I and satellite hospitals.

The Department of Health recommends that hospitals in the province review drugs, chemicals, infusion fluids, etc.; receive, treat, and closely monitor patients; promptly consult with higher-level hospitals for timely and safe treatment and transfer.

The Center for Disease Control continues to coordinate with the Education sector to promote prevention and control of hand, foot and mouth disease and to inspect and monitor prevention and control measures in schools and communities.

District and city medical centers promote disease prevention and control activities, including hand, foot and mouth disease.

Thoi Binh District Medical Center coordinated with relevant units and Tri Phai Commune Medical Station to strengthen environmental sanitation and guide local people to disinfect and clean the environment.

The Department of Health recommends that the Provincial People's Committee direct the People's Committees of districts and cities to strengthen inspection and supervision of disease prevention and control activities in the area; continue to direct the media to strengthen propaganda on disease prevention and control measures; the Education sector continues to coordinate with the health sector to deploy disease prevention and control measures in schools.
