Haaland silent against Inter in Champions League

The Norwegian striker's four-game nine-goal streak was ended when he failed to score for the third consecutive Champions League game, including last season. In his last six games against strong opponents in the competition, four against Real Madrid and two against Inter, Haaland has also been silent.

Haaland's best chance came in the 35th minute, when he received the ball on the edge of the box and shot diagonally just wide of the post, with goalkeeper Yann Sommer standing still. The 24-year-old also had two shots, but they were not dangerous. He will have to wait until at least the next game against Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium if he wants to reach 100 goals for Man City.

The two-time Champions League top scorer also had little to show for his efforts against a deep-lying Inter defence. He completed just seven passes despite playing the full 90 minutes, with centre-back Francesco Acerbi tracking him throughout the match.

One reason why Man City failed to score could be because midfielder Kevin de Bruyne was injured and had to be substituted after half-time. The home side barely created any dangerous chances in the second half, except for the last five minutes when Ilkay Gundogan twice headed the ball close to goal in good positions, but once it went straight into Sommer's hands and once it flew over the bar. In both situations, coach Pep Guardiola was disappointed.

Not only will they have to share points, Man City will have to worry about the extent of captain De Bruyne's injury.
