Indonesia will host Bahrain in the 8th match of Group C of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Asia on March 25 at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium. PSSI said it will provide a quota of 3,000 tickets for away fans at the stadium with a capacity of 78,000 seats.

However, PSSI representative Marsal Masita said that no Bahraini people registered to buy tickets. He said that according to regulations, the Bahrain Football Association (BFA) was allowed to hold the tickets until March 17, but by that time the away team had not sent confirmation of the ticket purchase. Therefore, PSSI decided to sell 3,000 tickets to Indonesian fans and they sold out in just a few hours.

When asked about the possibility of Bahrain fans still being present at the stadium, Mr Masita could not confirm.

The 2026 World Cup qualifiers require home teams to provide tickets to away teams, at a minimum of 8% of stadium capacity or total ticket sales. Fans are encouraged to apply for tickets through their home federation to determine numbers and information.

Indonesian newspaper Suara said that it is possible that BFA has advised fans to avoid cheering at Indonesian stadiums, following the incident in the first leg. The cause was referee Ahmed Al Kaf's decision to increase the second half's injury time to 9 minutes, leading to Bahrain's equalizer 2-2.

After the match, PSSI complained to FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) about the referee. Meanwhile, BFA was upset because Indonesian fans terrorized them, even sending death threats. Concerned about safety, Bahrain proposed to play the second leg on a neutral ground, but FIFA and AFC did not agree. PSSI affirmed that Bahrain would be guaranteed security and comfort as a guest.

Bahrain and Indonesia are locked in a tight battle in Group C of the third qualifying round. Both teams have six points, along with China and Saudi Arabia. However, Indonesia is third thanks to a superior goal difference and goals scored of -3 and 6. Meanwhile, Japan leads with 16 points, while Australia is second with seven points.

Before meeting in round 8, Bahrain will visit Japan, while Indonesia will visit Australia. Both matches will take place on March 20.
