Haaland is the best player in the Premier League in August

Haaland beat seven other candidates, Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford), Amadou Onana (Aston Villa), Cole Palmer (Chelsea), David Raya, Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Danny Welbeck (Brighton) to win the first Premier League Player of the Month award for the 2024-2025 season.

This is the third time Haaland has received this individual award, after August 2022 and April 2023. He was also voted the best Man City player of August in the Premier League.

Haaland opened the season with the opening goal in a 2-0 win over Chelsea, before scoring two hat-tricks against Ipswich Town and West Ham to help Man City lead the Premier League with nine absolute points.

The Norwegian striker became the first player to score a hat-trick in two of his first three games for a club in a season since Paul Jewell for Bradford City in League Two in 1994-95.

Haaland now has 70 goals in 69 Premier League games, averaging more than a goal per game. He has scored eight hat-tricks, the same as Michael Owen, Harry Kane, Thierry Henry and behind only Robbie Fowler (9 hat-tricks), Alan Shearer (11) and Sergio Aguero (12).

Haaland was delighted to be honoured in the first month of the 2024-2025 Premier League season, thanking the voters and all the members of Man City. The Norwegian striker sees the winning start as a motivation for Man City ahead of a busy period with the Champions League and League Cup starting together.

"August was a great month for the team and I'm proud to have played a big part," Haaland said. "Scoring seven goals in three games is fantastic and I'll continue to work hard and improve my game. Hopefully I can help the team continue to win and fight in all competitions."

Meanwhile, Fabian Hurzeler beat Mikel Arteta, Pep Guardiola and Arne Slot to win the Premier League Manager of the Month award for August. In the first three rounds, Brighton beat Everton 3-0, Man Utd 2-1, drew Arsenal 1-1 and are currently third in the Premier League.

At 31, Hurzeler is the youngest manager to be signed on a permanent basis by a Premier League club, breaking the record of Attilio Lombardo, who was appointed by Crystal Palace at the age of 32 in 1998. In 2021, Tottenham appointed Ryan Mason, who was then 29, but as an interim manager.

Hurzeler continues to make history by becoming the youngest manager to win the Premier League Manager of the Month award in his first month in charge. He is the first Brighton manager to win the award since Chris Hughton in February 2018.

Born in 1993, Hurzeler grew up in the Bayern youth academy. He is a defensive midfielder. Hurzeler's football career was not very successful when he only played for Bayern II, Hoffenheim II, 1986 Munich II, FC Pipinsried and Eimsbutteler TV. During his time playing for FC Pipinsried from 2016 to 2020, he was both a player and a head coach.
