Hanoi won the National Youth Archery Championship

On the morning of July 13, the 2024 National Youth Archery Championship concluded after 7 days of competition at the Hai Duong Training, Coaching and Competition Center. This year's tournament attracted nearly 200 archers from 17 delegations nationwide.

The organizing committee awarded a total of 40 gold medals, 41 silver medals and 55 bronze medals. With 21 gold medals, 11 silver medals and 7 bronze medals, the Hanoi delegation won first place, more than the total number of gold medals won by all delegations combined. Second and third place belonged to Vinh Long and Hai Phong. Winning 2 gold medals, 1 silver medal and 2 bronze medals, the Hai Duong delegation ranked 5th out of 17 delegations participating in the tournament.

Attending the tournament, the host Hai Duong sent a team of 14 archers, led by coach Nguyen Xuan Thanh, with the target of winning at least 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 2 bronze medals. The two gold medals of the Hai Duong delegation belonged to archers Pham Tran Bao Huy (30m 3-string bow - U17) and Pham Tran Hoang - Hoang Ba Tai An (men's 3-string bow pair).

Regarding Pham Tran Hoang's gold medal, coach of the Hai Duong archery team Nguyen Xuan Thanh said that before the tournament, the doctor asked Tran Hoang to have surgery immediately due to an illness in the armpit area. However, his father, Mr. Pham Ba Vuong, a former archer of the Hai Duong team, and Tran Hoang suggested postponing the surgery to focus on the competition. Coach Nguyen Xuan Thanh initially did not agree because he was worried about the athlete's safety. However, Tran Hoang committed that he was capable of competing, so the team agreed. "Although it is a gold medal in a youth tournament, it shows the professional attitude and collective responsibility of this athlete," said coach Pham Xuan Thanh.

Pham Tran Hoang is the only archer from Hai Duong to bring home a gold medal at the 9th National Sports Festival in 2022 at the age of 17.
