This week, the price of live pigs nationwide increased from 1,000 to 3,000 VND/kg. The highest price reached 64,000 VND/kg, the highest price in the past year.
In the Northern region, the price of live pigs today, July 2, remained stable across the board and fluctuated between 62,000 - 64,000 VND/kg. Of which, the highest price in the region of 64,000 VND/kg was recorded in Thai Binh, Phu Tho, and Vinh Phuc.
In Bac Giang, Yen Bai, Thai Nguyen, and Hanoi, the price of live pigs is all at 63,000 VND/kg. Other localities in the region recorded a price of 62,000 VND/kg.
Following the same market trend as the Northern region, in the Central Highlands region, the price of live pigs today fluctuates between 58,000 - 63,000 VND/kg.
In the Southern region, the price of live pigs today fluctuates between 58,000 - 61,000 VND. The highest price in the region is 61,000 VND/kg recorded in Dong Nai, Long An, and Can Tho.
Thus, over the past week, the price of live pigs nationwide increased by 1,000 - 3,000 VND/kg. Notably, after a long period of being below 60,000 VND/kg, the average price of live pigs in the regions has now exceeded 60,000 VND/kg. Compared to the lowest level in April, the price of live pigs has increased by about 37%.
Pig prices tend to increase again
Along with the increase in live pig prices, the price of pork has also increased and is currently at 82,000 VND/kg. At the local markets in Hanoi, the price of pork has also started to increase gradually, in which, pork belly, lean shoulder, and loin ribs are commonly at 120,000 - 130,000 VND/kg; pork butt is 110,000 VND/kg...
According to statistics from the Department of Livestock Production - Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the total pig herd in the country as of the end of June is estimated at about 26 million, an increase of about 2.5% over the same period in 2022; the output of live pigs for slaughter in the first 6 months of the year is estimated at 2,325,600 tons, an increase of 6.5% over the same period in 2022.
The Department of Animal Husbandry said that the price of live pigs has tended to increase since May due to the demand for pork during the tourist season. According to experts and businesses in the industry, the price of live pigs has improved in the second quarter, but it will still take a long time to recover.
