Many Facebook users in Vietnam reported that they could not access the web version on the morning of February 27.
"I was using Messenger inside Facebook to communicate with my partner when I suddenly received a notification that I could not access it," said Ms. Thu Hang, communications manager of a software company in Hanoi.
"Sorry, something went wrong. We're working to fix it as soon as possible," Facebook displayed a message on a series of user accounts.
According to data from Downdetector, a tool that monitors the status of Internet services, the problem occurred sporadically from the early morning of February 27 with nearly 1,000 reports, then spiked again at 9 a.m. with nearly 7,000 complaints from users in many regions around the world.
Facebook representatives have not yet announced the cause of the problem. By nearly 10am, the difficulty in accessing the site had gradually been resolved.
Meta has been experiencing continuous problems with social networking services recently. The situation where users sometimes cannot send or receive messages for long periods of time has become more common, interspersed with major incidents that paralyze for hours. Most recently on December 12, 2024, a series of Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp services were inaccessible or worked intermittently for more than 4 hours.
In March 2024, Meta services were also disrupted for about an hour. A similar issue occurred in 2021 when a series of the company's platforms were inaccessible in many regions around the world for 6 hours. At the time, Meta said the problem was due to a "configuration error" in the system. In 2019, the web version of Facebook was also offline for 24 hours.
