The tropical depression in the sea northeast of Luzon Island (Philippines) has strengthened into a storm, named Saola, one of 10 storm names proposed by Vietnam.
On August 25, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that storm Saola, one of 10 storm names proposed by Vietnam, is in the sea northeast of Luzon Island (Philippines).
Experts say that storm Saola has a complicated path. Currently, the meteorological center is closely monitoring this storm.
According to the meteorological agency, if storm Saola does not move into the East Sea, August 2023 will be the year without any storms/tropical depressions in the East Sea.
“In the past 30 years, only 2011 and 2015 were the two years without storms/tropical depressions in August. This also reflects the impact of the El Nino year, which caused storms/tropical depressions to appear less than usual,” the meteorological agency added.
In addition, the Hong Kong Meteorological Station forecasts that storm Saola is strengthening with a predicted intensity that could reach level 14.
Previously, in the August forecast bulletin, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting stated that the state of the atmosphere and ocean is in El Nino conditions. It is forecasted that in the next 3 months, El Nino will continue to exist with a probability of about 85-95%.
Due to the influence of El Nino, from the second half of August to November 2023, there will be 5-7 storms or tropical depressions in the East Sea, of which about 2-3 will directly affect the mainland of our country.
“Be on guard for storms that are complex in both trajectory and intensity,” the meteorological agency noted.
