At least 38 migrants, including children, have died in a shipwreck off the coast of Djibouti, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) says.
At least six people are missing and presumed dead, while 22 survivors are being assisted by IOM and local authorities.
IMO regional spokesperson Yvonne Ndege said the ship, carrying about 66 migrants, mostly from the Horn of Africa, left Yemen in the early hours of April 8. Most of the migrants on board were believed to be Ethiopians. However, two hours after departure, the ship ran into trouble about 200 meters from Djibouti.
According to Ms. Ndege, every year tens of thousands of migrants leave the Horn of Africa, mainly from Ethiopia and Somalia, to reach the Gulf states. However, thousands are stranded in Yemen.
