Tunisia rescued 175 undocumented migrants from sinking boats on March 22, after they intercepted several illegal immigration attempts off its central coast.
Tunisia’s Maritime Guard intercepted boats carrying illegal migrants attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Italy on March 21, rescuing 172 people from sub-Saharan African countries and three Tunisians off the coast of Sfax province. Three boats and five wanted men were detained.
Located in the central Mediterranean, Tunisia is one of the main transit points chosen by illegal migrants to reach Europe.
