List of top 10 schools in QS World Rankings
Euronews reported that European universities accounted for half of the world's top 10 universities, while Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) topped the rankings for the 12th consecutive year.
QS World Rankings has been ranking universities for 20 years. QS World Rankings bases its conclusions on the analysis of 17.5 million academic papers and the expert opinions of over 240,000 academic staff and employers worldwide.
English-language universities dominate the rankings, scoring highly in categories such as academic reputation, employer reputation and student-faculty ratio.
MIT in Cambridge (USA) holds the number 1 position with a total score of 100. The University of Cambridge in the UK is in second place with 99.2 points. Another prestigious British school, the University of Oxford, is in third place with 98.9 points.
Harvard University ranked fourth with 98.3 points, followed by Stanford University with 98.1 points. The National University of Singapore (NUS), the only Asian representative in the top 10, ranked eighth.
The total score is based on nine factors: academic reputation, employer reputation, student-faculty ratio, research output, international faculty/staff ratio, international student ratio, international research network, employment outcomes and sustainability.
The British company Quacquarelli Symonds, which produces the QS World Rankings, said the factors “reflect changes in higher education that have taken place over the past two decades, such as the growing importance of sustainability, employability and research collaboration”.
