From July 28, the Vietnam U23 team, under the leadership of head coach Hoang Anh Tuan, will officially gather to begin the training period to prepare for the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 Championship.
Vietnam U23 team uses U20 players as main force to prepare for Southeast Asian tournament
Coach Hoang Anh Tuan is responsible for leading one of the two U23 Vietnam teams to participate in international tournaments in the final stages of 2023. Specifically, the U23 team led by the "young teacher" will participate in the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 tournament (from August 17 to 26) and the 19th ASIAD from September 23 to October 8.
According to the list of U23 Vietnam players preparing for the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 tournament that has just been announced, the team will include the main force of U20 players. This can be easily seen when the list of 26 players called up in the first round has 11 players who have just "fought" in the 2023 Asian U20 finals, including outstanding faces such as goalkeeper Cao Van Binh, midfielder Khuat Van Khang, Nguyen Van Truong, Nguyen Duc Viet, and striker Nguyen Quoc Viet.
Besides, there are the selected factors in the U17 Vietnam team to participate in the 2023 U17 Asian final round such as goalkeeper Nguyen Bao Ngoc, midfielder Nguyen Cong Phuong, and Le Dinh Long Vu.
In addition, as shared by coach Hoang Anh Tuan at the time he was given the right to lead the Vietnam U23 team to participate in the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 tournament, the list of summoned players also includes many new faces, most of whom are only U18 years old.
Previously, coach Hoang Anh Tuan shared: “The list will have many new faces, never appeared or rarely given the opportunity, including players playing in the Second Division. Maybe participating in the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, the team will not have the best or most experienced players; but for me, that is okay. Without this player, U23 Vietnam will have other players. Who knows, maybe a few strange players will come to light in this tournament. This is also what I aim for.”
Coach Hoang Anh Tuan hopes that the new players will have the opportunity to step onto their "stage" and shine.
According to the plan, the Vietnam U23 team will gather for training at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center from July 28. However, the team will not be able to gather fully because many players are busy with their schedules in professional tournaments as well as the national Second Division. For this reason, coach Hoang Anh Tuan cannot have the services of other excellent U23 players, especially players from the group of clubs competing for rankings, including some names such as Nguyen Thai Son, Phan Tuan Tai, Nguyen Thanh Nhan, Nguyen Duc Phu...
If nothing changes, before leaving for Thailand for training, the Vietnam U23 team will have some necessary additions to ensure the depth of the force to serve the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 tournament.
During the training period in Thailand, the Vietnam U23 team is expected to have a rehearsal with a friendly match against the Bahrain U23 team, taking place on August 15.
