The subjects met each other on the social network "wives in debt take risks" and then invited each other to rob during Tet to earn money to spend.
On January 28, Ho Chi Minh City Police said that the Criminal Police Department had just coordinated with District 12 Police to arrest 4 subjects including: Tran Quoc Viet (26 years old, from Binh Thuan), Tran Duy Thien Tan (30 years old, residing in District 8), Nguyen Tran Thanh Phuong (21 years old, residing in Ben Cat City, Binh Duong Province), Nguyen Ngoc Thien (26 years old, from Thua Thien Hue) to investigate the act of robbery.
Currently, the police are expanding the investigation and searching for related subjects.
Accordingly, recently, Tan Thoi Nhat Ward Police, District 12 received a report from Mr. PTP (22 years old, residing in Tan Phu District) about being robbed at 11:20 pm on January 25.
According to Mr. P, at that time he went to the ward to deliver a phone to someone who ordered it online.
While the customer was checking out, suddenly a subject from behind sprayed pepper spray into Mr. P's face, causing his eyes to sting and making him dizzy. The subject rode his bike, causing Mr. P to fall, then the robber and the customer escaped from the scene.
Determining the seriousness of the case, District 12 Police coordinated with the Criminal Police Department to investigate. Recently, detectives arrested the four suspects.
At the police station, this group confessed that they knew each other in the group "Debt Bankruptcy" on social networks and then invited each other to rob property.
They discussed and searched social media for posts about selling assets such as phones, motorbikes, etc., then contacted customers to meet them at a location they specified. The subjects assigned tasks to each member: one person would act as the customer to make the victim lose their guard; the remaining subjects would use pepper spray to attack the victim and quickly seize the property.
After committing the act, the group would throw away their phone SIM cards, delete all chats, and split up to hide in different locations. However, the group was unexpectedly arrested so quickly.
