In addition to using girls to film pornographic videos, Pham Huynh Nhat Vi, 21 years old, was also accused of appropriating a person under 16 years old.
On April 12, Vi was temporarily detained by Ho Chi Minh City Police for the crimes of appropriating a person under 16 years old and using a person under 16 years old for pornographic purposes.
This move was made by the investigation agency after receiving the case file from District 1 Police, due to the serious nature of the case.
The investigation agency determined that Vi colluded with a foreign man to find children aged 6-12, bring them to an apartment, and force them to perform some pornographic acts to film and take pictures. Vi sent these videos abroad and received payment.
On the evening of April 3, taking advantage of the time when two girls, aged 3 and 7, were unsupervised on Nguyen Hue walking street, Vi approached and lured the children to the Saigon Pearl apartment building in Binh Thanh district to force them to film a video.
Thus, Vi kidnapped two children and then forced them to make pornographic videos, so he is being investigated for two separate crimes. Currently, the investigation agency has not announced the involvement of the foreign man in the case.
Immediately after receiving the mother's report, 200 officers and soldiers from the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department's Criminal Police Department and District 1 Police Department began searching. Extracting camera footage, authorities discovered that Vi had approached the children, lured them into giving them money, then took the two children through many routes from District 1 to District 8, and booked a technology taxi to take them back to the apartment.
At noon on April 9, the police raided the apartment, rescued the two girls, and arrested Vi. The apartment was rented by a foreign man for Vi to live in.
Initially, the suspect claimed that he "had no children so he took the two children home to raise". However, when the police searched the apartment, they found evidence that Vi's purpose was to film pornographic videos.
The investigation agency is expanding the case.
