The Vu family in Phuong Khe village, Chi Lang Bac commune is a typical family in promoting learning and talent in Thanh Mien district (Hai Duong) thanks to its creative approach.
Mr. Vu Duc Thanh, Chairman of the Thanh Mien District Association for the Promotion of Education, said that the Vu clan of Sect 5 was one of the clans that established a clan education promotion committee early in the district. The methodical way the Vu clan promotes education and talents shows its concern for the education of its descendants.
In 2003, the Vu Family Education Promotion Committee of Sect 5 was established, with detailed operating regulations, including regulations on rewarding children from primary school and above who achieved high academic achievements on September 2nd every year. The initial operating costs were contributed by families and sponsored by successful children.
Ms. Vu Thi Ngoan, Head of the Education Promotion Committee of the Vu clan, Sect 5, said that the education promotion committee periodically evaluates the work of promoting education and talents to promptly propose specific directions for the future. The members of the committee are dedicated and regularly meet with families to promote the important role of learning and the movement of promoting education and talents, building learning families, etc.
The Education Promotion Committee also pays special attention to disadvantaged families, annually granting scholarships to poor students who overcome difficulties, while focusing on encouraging, praising, and promptly rewarding children with excellent academic achievements.
To encourage the tradition of learning of generations in the family, since 2017, the education promotion committee has collaborated with the family council to honor people with university degrees or higher and successful businessmen. The family council has agreed to erect a stele to honor people with university degrees or higher, placed solemnly in the family temple; and erect a stele to record the names of descendants who contributed to the construction of the temple and the education promotion fund.
The Education Promotion Committee calls for funding on occasions when all members of the 5th faction are present, such as the anniversary of the death of the founder, the day of rewarding students, Lunar New Year... with high efficiency.
In recent years, the Education Promotion Committee has not collected donations from families but has increasingly encouraged successful descendants to sponsor. Many descendants have sponsored from 1-5 million VND, especially Mr. Vu Hai Thanh who donated more than 100 million VND. Thanks to that, the Education Promotion Fund of the Vu family, sect 5, has increased year by year, and from there, the amount of rewards for students has also gradually increased.
If in 2010-2012, the Vu clan's Scholarship Fund of Sect 5 only had about 39 million VND, now it has increased to nearly 180 million VND. From this fund, depending on the year, the family's Scholarship Board has commended and rewarded students with a total amount of 10-60 million VND each year.
Up to now, the family has 7 PhDs, 35 masters, 173 bachelors. For many years, the Vu family's education promotion committee, branch 5, has had individuals and groups receive certificates of merit, commemorative medals, etc. from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association for Education Promotion, the Fatherland Front Committee of Hai Duong province, the Hai Duong Association for Education Promotion, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Mien district, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Chi Lang Bac commune, etc.
Mr. Nguyen Van Nhang, Vice Chairman of the Hai Duong Province Association for the Promotion of Education, said that the Vu family of sect 5 in Chi Lang Bac commune is a typical family with a good and creative way of promoting education. Methods such as organizing honoring ceremonies and erecting honoring stele... need to be widely replicated. The Vu family of sect 5 is being considered for publication in the book "Typical families of Hai Duong for the promotion of education".
