Candidates take the 2023 competency assessment exam at Hanoi National University to get admission results |
Open many new industries
In recent days, candidates have continuously received information about new majors expected to enroll this year from two top universities in the economic sector, Foreign Trade University and National Economics University.
In 2024, Foreign Trade University will enroll 4,130 students, an increase of 30 students compared to 2023. The university plans to enroll new students in Computer Science, Computer Science and Data in Economics and Business, and at the same time start enrolling students in a dual degree program with the University of Queensland (Australia) in International Business, International Business and Business Analytics at its headquarters in Hanoi.
According to the announcement of the plan to build a project to open university-level training majors of the National Economics University, in 2024, the school plans to open 6 new majors, including Data Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Information Security, Labor Relations. This is a preparation step for the upcoming establishment of the technology school under the National Economics University. The expected quota for these majors is 400. Thus, if enrollment is allowed, the total number of majors of the National Economics University in 2024 will be 66 majors with 6,600 quotas.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc, Chairman of the Council of the University of Technology, Hanoi National University, affirmed that Vietnam lacks a common ground in university admissions. The assessment of academic records is being lenient. Meanwhile, the high school graduation exam in recent years only meets the requirements for high school graduation.
Continue to tighten the admission method combining academic records
This year, Foreign Trade University maintains 6 admission methods as in 2023. Of these, there are 2 admission methods combined with high school academic results (transcripts), which are admission based on high school academic results for candidates participating in/winning prizes in the national excellent student competition or in the national science and technology competition, winning prizes for excellent students at the provincial/municipal level and candidates in the specialized system of national key high schools/specialized high schools; admission combined between international foreign language certificates and high school academic results/international competency certificates for candidates in the specialized and non-specialized systems of high schools.
The most notable point in these two methods is that candidates must have a total score of the 2024 high school graduation exam subjects of one of the school's admission subject groups (including regional and subject priority points) of 24.0 points or higher. This is a completely new score compared to previous admission seasons.
Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Thi Hien, Head of Training Department, Foreign Trade University, said that the school maintains a stable admission method because every year it evaluates the learning and training results of students admitted by different methods and finds that the quality is consistent between the methods; maintaining stability so that candidates are not psychologically affected in the final stage of admission preparation. If there is any change, the school will issue an early order so that students can prepare.
In using high school academic results, the school has considered target groups and appropriate quota ratios as well as high conditions to ensure that the best group of candidates can be selected.
“We should not have the mentality of denying the assessment results in the whole process of general education, but should respect, accept them on a scientific basis and accompany them to help the general education system become better and better, approaching international education,” said Ms. Hien.
This year, some universities do not consider transcripts for admission. The refusal of universities to consider transcripts for admission raises the requirement to ensure the quality of training at the general education level for high schools. This reality requires management to intervene to "tighten" the quality, returning students' transcript scores to their real value.
