Although small, the gift bags contain the warm feelings of the Hai Duong provincial trade union organization, helping workers in difficult circumstances feel warm when welcoming the Lunar New Year 2023.

Trade Union and Tinh Loi Garment Company Limited give Tet gifts to the family of worker Nguyen Thi Hong Thuy

Thousands of Tet gifts to workers

There is nothing valuable left in the house, the Tet gift bag given by the State to the family of Trinh Thi Loan, a member of the Thanh Ha District Road Management Union, stands out on the altar. For her, Tet is enough. The old saying goes, “Hungry on the anniversary of the father’s death, full on the three days of Tet,” but these days, she still has to worry about every penny to have the most normal meal. Loan’s husband has a mental illness that has required treatment for nearly 20 years, and she has thyroid cancer. Not only does she take care of her children, she also has to support her sister-in-law and her husband’s nephew who are sick and unable to work. All of them are living at her husband’s house. On this Tet occasion, receiving a gift warms her heart. Maybe for many people, the gift is not of much material value, but for her, if she doesn’t have one, she can’t buy anything for Tet.

Recently, the Trade Union of Tinh Loi Garment Company Limited has reviewed people in particularly difficult circumstances to propose that the business owner visit and give them Tet gifts. 12 people have received gifts, each worth 3-5 million VND. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Thuy works as a worker fixing errors in woolen textiles and is a poor household. Recently, the Trade Union of the company and the business gave her 5 million VND to buy Tet. After her mother-in-law suffered from severe complications of diabetes and dementia and had to be treated, every penny in the family's expenses were carefully saved. She has a child who has been disabled since childhood and cannot walk, and her husband is a freelancer and has an unstable job. When she received the gift from the Trade Union of the company and the business, she was very touched. Ms. Thuy said: "I have worked at Tinh Loi Garment Company Limited for about ten years now, and every Tet I have received gifts from the Trade Union. This year, I have more funds to cover Tet so I am less worried."

By January 18, nearly 16,000 Tet gifts worth more than VND8 billion from the Provincial Federation of Labor had been directly delivered to workers by the grassroots trade unions. In addition to giving gifts, trade unions at all levels also organized “zero-dong” booths, supporting discounted purchases, helping workers have more money during Tet.

Full of love

Leaders of the Provincial Labor Federation presented Tet gifts to Ms. Trinh Thi Loan, a member of the Labor Union of the Thanh Ha District Road Management Department.

According to Ms. Ngo Thi Thanh Hoa, Chairwoman of the Hai Duong Provincial Labor Federation, with the motto "All union members and employees have Tet", the unit has promptly issued a plan to take care of Tet for union members and employees. The Standing Committee of the Provincial Labor Federation directed trade unions at all levels to proactively review the number of poor employees and those in difficult circumstances, especially those who have lost or are underemployed, have unpaid wages, have low incomes, are sick, have work-related accidents, occupational diseases, etc. to consider subsidies.

The Provincial Federation of Labor requires grassroots trade unions to promote their role and advise the Board of Directors of enterprises to propose Tet subsidies and gifts for employees in various forms. The province has 831 enterprises with trade unions. As of January 18, about 70% of these enterprises have given 13th-month salary bonuses ranging from 4.5 to 13 million VND/person to employees. Some enterprises have high bonuses for employees with outstanding achievements in production and business, ranging from 70 to 170 million VND/person. In addition, many enterprises arrange shuttle buses or support train and bus tickets for employees living far away to return home for Tet, such as Sumidenso Vietnam Co., Ltd. and Brother Vietnam Industry.

Along with these activities, 15 trade unions at the grassroots level organized the program "Tet sum vay - xuan ket ket" to share difficulties with workers, hoping to bring a warm Tet to workers. Ms. Nong Thi Thuy Luy, a worker at Sumidenso Vietnam Co., Ltd., was also one of many workers who received Tet gifts from the Provincial Labor Federation on this occasion. She said: "This is a meaningful activity that helps us trust the trade union organization and stay with the company longer." In addition to the gifts from the Provincial Labor Federation, Ms. Luy also received Tet gifts from the company and the grassroots trade union, and a Tet bonus of 130% of the basic salary. Ms. Luy, like many other workers, always feels secure when working here.

The series of gift-giving and Tet care activities have had great significance, strongly spreading the loving spirit of “helping each other” of the trade union organization towards workers. Thereby, continuing to multiply the trust and expectation of workers towards the trade union organization.
