Dampness occurs when the humidity in the air reaches 90%, at which point water vapor will condense and collect on the surface of objects. The most obvious signs of the damp season are water on the floor, mirrors, walls, blankets, mattresses, clothes that take a long time to dry, even moldy food, and easily damaged electronics.

To limit this phenomenon, you can refer to some ways to prevent dampness in the house below.

Close the doors

Many people think that when the steam in the house condenses, they should open the door to release it and help with ventilation. However, this is a wrong action because opening the door will bring in wind with high humidity, along with a large amount of steam into the house. When the weather is humid, you should close the doors.

Not only should the doors be closed, other gaps in the house should also be sealed to prevent wind carrying moisture from entering, helping to reduce mold.

Use newspaper to absorb moisture

When the weather is humid, damp areas such as the kitchen walls and the sink faucets are often soaked with water. At this time, you should use old newspapers to stick on the damp walls to limit water leakage. In addition, to help the floor become less slippery, you can use newspapers near the door, next to the carpet to help absorb moisture better. You should spread at least two layers to be effective.

Use scented candles

Scented candles have the effect of increasing room temperature, reducing air humidity, diffusing scent to keep the room dry. Using scented candles also makes people feel relaxed and comfortable.

Clean the floor with salt water

Use a few spoons of salt dissolved in warm water, then soak the mop in the salt water and wring it out to clean the floor. Because warm salt water evaporates faster than cold water, the floor will dry faster. The magnesium chloride and calcium chloride in table salt have the ability to absorb water, preventing condensation on the ground, so the floor will dry faster.

Use quicklime

The chemical formula of quicklime is CaO, which has good moisture absorption ability. Therefore, when the weather is humid, you can use this material to keep your house dry. Just put a bucket of quicklime in a humid place and close the door, the humidity in the room will quickly decrease.

Use charcoal

Place some charcoal in a corner of the house or a corner of the cupboard and close the door. Charcoal not only absorbs moisture but also absorbs bad odors, returning fresh air to the room. When finished using, you can take the charcoal out to dry for reuse next time. Absolutely do not burn charcoal in a closed room because the CO2 gas in the burning charcoal will cause poisoning, even death.

Turn on the air conditioner in dry mode or dehumidifier

Using a dehumidifier in humid weather is an effective way to keep your home dry. If you cannot afford a dehumidifier, you should use the air conditioner in dry mode to remove moisture, prevent mold, and ensure a good living space. However, you should not turn on this mode for too long because it will cause dry skin and fatigue.
