507 cases of examination and emergency treatment due to firecrackers after 4 days of Tet holiday

After 4 days of Tet holiday of Giap Thin 2024, there were 507 cases of examination and emergency care due to firecrackers of all kinds, 134 more cases than the same period of Tet Quy Mao 2023.

On the afternoon of February 12, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment (Ministry of Health) announced that the report on medical examination and treatment, emergency treatment for accidents and poisonings of medical examination and treatment facilities under the Ministry of Health, universities, 63 provincial and municipal Departments of Health and Health Sectors nationwide showed that after 4 days of Tet holiday (from 7:00 a.m. on the 29th of Tet to 7:00 a.m. on the 3rd day of Tet Giap Thin 2024), the number of medical examinations and emergency treatment for suspected traffic accidents decreased by 12.7%, the number of hospitalizations related to traffic accidents decreased slightly by 0.7%. The number of deaths due to traffic accidents decreased by 15.9%. Meanwhile, the number of medical examinations and emergency treatment for firecracker accidents increased by 35.9%.

From 7:00 a.m. on February 11 to 7:00 a.m. on February 12 (the third day of Tet), the whole country had 53 cases of examination and emergency care due to firecrackers, 4 more cases than the same day of Tet Quy Mao 2023, of which 29 cases had to be hospitalized for monitoring and treatment.

After 4 days of Tet holiday, there were 507 cases of examination and emergency care due to firecrackers of all kinds, 134 more cases than the same period of Tet Quy Mao 2023.

Medical facilities recorded an additional death due to firecrackers on February 9. The 15-year-old victim (in Duy Xuyen district, Quang Nam province) was hospitalized with multiple injuries due to firecrackers, including traumatic brain injury, closed chest and abdominal trauma, bilateral eye injuries, and third and fourth degree burns covering 80% of the body...

During this time, the number of visits and emergency care due to suspected traffic accidents was 4,375 cases, down 28.7% compared to the same day of Tet Quy Mao 2023. The number of cases requiring inpatient treatment or monitoring was 1,764 cases, down 7.5%; 451 cases were transferred to higher levels for treatment.

Thus, during the 4-day Tet holiday, there were 6,230 traffic accident cases requiring hospitalization, accounting for 40.3% of the total number of examinations and emergency care related to traffic accidents, a slight decrease of 0.7% compared to the same period last year.

As of 7:00 a.m. on February 12, medical facilities nationwide were caring for and treating 104,616 patients.

All medical examination and treatment facilities have organized full 4-level staff, providing examination and emergency care to 49,883 patients, an increase of 9.0%, of which 26,091 patients had to be hospitalized for inpatient treatment (accounting for 53%), a decrease of 3.4% compared to the same day of Tet Quy Mao 2023.

Medical facilities transferred 2,403 patients to other hospitals and performed 2,733 emergency surgeries, including 542 emergency surgeries due to accidents of various causes.

Doctors also successfully delivered and performed cesarean sections to welcome 2,850 babies and discharged 13,665 patients who had been cured to go home for Tet.

The summary after 4 days of Tet holiday shows that the number of patients coming to medical facilities for examination and emergency treatment was 251,656 cases, an increase of 28.8%; of which 87,672 cases were hospitalized, a decrease of 0.1%; there were 10,052 cases of giving birth and cesarean section at medical facilities; 86,902 patients recovered and were discharged home to celebrate Tet, an increase of 6% over the same period last year.

The Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management said that all medical examination and treatment facilities strictly follow the direction of the Ministry of Health on strengthening medical examination and treatment during the 2024 Lunar New Year, ensuring emergency care for the people.

Previously, to strengthen measures to ensure medical work during the Lunar New Year, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management issued a document directing medical examination and treatment facilities to strengthen emergency work and medical examination and treatment for people such as organizing 24/7 on-call, having plans to ensure enough human resources, medicine, supplies, equipment... to organize emergency treatment for traffic accidents, food poisoning, and be ready to provide emergency care to support lower-level hospitals when needed...
