117 films attend the 7th Hanoi International Film Festival

The 7th Hanoi International Film Festival has 117 films from 51 countries and territories participating such as the United States, France, Germany, Sweden, Russian Federation, Denmark, China, and Japan.

During the 5 days (from November 7-11), more than 300 delegates including filmmakers, cinema activists, domestic and international artists participated in exchanges and shared experiences with dozens of large and small events.

With the slogan "Creative Cinema - Take Off", the 7th Hanoi International Film Festival will take place from November 7-11, 2024 in Hanoi.

The event is directed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the City People's Committee; chaired by the Department of Cinema, in coordination with the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, and related agencies and units.

This is a practical activity to celebrate the country's major holidays in 2024 and the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital.

According to the Organizing Committee, the Film Festival is a cultural and artistic event honoring cinematic works of high artistic value, rich in humanity, and with outstanding and unique international and Vietnamese creative marks.

The event also aims to discover and honor new cinema talents; introduce outstanding works of world cinema and connect, exchange and cooperate for mutual development, creating opportunities to expand the Vietnamese cinema market, and integrate into the international cinema market.

Director of the Department of Cinema Vi Kien Thanh said that the 7th Hanoi International Film Festival has 117 films from 51 countries and territories participating such as the United States, France, Germany, Sweden, the Russian Federation, Denmark, Norway, China, Japan...

Of these, 10 feature films were entered into the competition, including 9 foreign feature films from Switzerland, Russia, Belgium, Sweden, Germany, Estonia, South Korea, Iran, and India; and 1 Vietnamese feature film was entered into the competition, "Once Upon a Time There Was a Love Story" (directed by Trinh Dinh Le Minh).

The 19 short films in the competition include 11 foreign films from Colombia, China, Iran, Serbia, Cambodia, the United States, South Korea, Japan, Iran, Greece and 8 Vietnamese films including documentary, animation and feature film genres.

Director of the Department of Cinema (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) Vi Kien Thanh - Head of the Festival Organizing Committee informed about the new and attractive activities that will take place.

In addition to the feature and short films in competition, within the framework of the Film Festival, many films will be introduced to domestic and foreign audiences, including 7 films in the German Cinema Focus program; 38 films in the World Cinema Panorama program; 34 films in the Contemporary Vietnamese Film Program, including feature films, documentaries and animations; 9 films in the Vietnamese Film Program celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024)...

Director of the Department of Cinema Vi Kien Thanh said that there will be about 800 delegates, both domestic and international, coming to Hanoi to attend this Film Festival.

The opening and closing ceremonies and award ceremonies were held at Ho Guom Theater, 40 Hang Bai, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi.

The idea of ​​the script for these two ceremonies was inspired by traditional folk art interwoven with modern architectural works that are symbols of Hanoi.

In addition to the film screenings, this Film Festival also held many events such as the Exhibition "Vietnam's Heritages Through Films", hosted by the Vietnam Film Institute, displaying about 200 images from films by domestic and international filmmakers recording images of Vietnam's heritages recognized by UNESCO; 2 seminars were held with the themes "Spotlight on German Cinema" and "Developing the production of films exploiting historical themes and adapted from literary works".

The “Film Project Market” program is organized by the Department of Cinema in collaboration with Binh Hanh Dan Limited Liability Company. This is a place to support producers, directors and screenwriters in the Asia-Pacific region to introduce their film projects to investors and domestic and foreign film experts through seminars, workshops and networking events taking place within the framework of the program.

Films participating in the Festival will be screened at 3 cinema complexes: National Cinema Center (87 Lang Ha, Dong Da, Hanoi); BHD Star Cineplex (8th floor of Vincom Trade Center, No. 2 Pham Ngoc Thach, Dong Da, Hanoi); CGV Mipec Tower, (5th floor of Mipec Tower, 229 Tay Son, Dong Da, Hanoi).

The opening ceremony of the Film Festival will take place at 8:00 p.m. on November 7 and will be broadcast live on Hanoi Radio and Television (HTV1). The closing ceremony and award ceremony will take place at 8:00 p.m. on November 11 and will be broadcast live on Vietnam Television (VTV2).
