1. General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong passed away

2. Strengthen key leadership positions

On August 3, the Party Central Committee elected Comrade To Lam as General Secretary. At the 7th Session, the National Assembly elected Comrade Tran Thanh Man as Chairman of the National Assembly; at the 8th Session, the National Assembly relieved Comrade To Lam from the position of President and elected Comrade Luong Cuong as President.

The consolidation of key leadership positions has demonstrated the spirit of solidarity and high determination of the entire Party, army and people to maintain stability and develop the country, creating a solid momentum to enter the new era.

For the first time, the Politburo decided to issue a disciplinary warning to key leaders, comrade Nguyen Xuan Phuc for violations during his tenure as Prime Minister and comrade Vuong Dinh Hue for violations during his tenure as Chairman of the National Assembly.

3. Revolution in streamlining the organizational apparatus of the political system

5. GDP growth reached more than 7%

In the context of being heavily affected by storm No. 3 (super typhoon Yagi) and the world economy facing many uncertainties, Vietnam's economy has made efforts to overcome difficulties, with GDP forecast to grow by more than 7%, exceeding the target assigned by the National Assembly.

The macro economy remains stable, inflation is controlled below 4%. Total import-export turnover approaches the record of 800 billion USD. The national brand value reaches 507 billion USD, ranking 32/193 countries.

FDI attraction reached more than 31 billion USD, ranking among the 15 developing countries attracting the largest FDI in the world. The number of international tourists to Vietnam increased by about 40% compared to 2023.

6. Super Typhoon Yagi leaves 345 people dead and missing

Super typhoon Yagi, the strongest in the past 30 years in the East Sea and the past 70 years on the mainland of our country, caused serious consequences, killing 323 people, leaving 22 missing, injuring 1,978 people, and causing material damage of more than 81,700 billion VND. Lang Nu village, Phuc Khanh commune, Bao Yen district, Lao Cai province was flattened by flash floods.

With the urgent and strong participation of the entire political system, the spirit of solidarity of the people of the whole country, and the support of international friends, the work of overcoming the consequences of storms and floods was deployed promptly and effectively, helping people stabilize their lives and restore production.

7. Approval of investment policy, restart of two important projects

At the 8th Session, the National Assembly approved the investment policy for the North-South High-Speed ​​Railway Project with a total investment of VND 1,713,548 billion and restarted investment in the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project.

The High-Speed ​​Railway Project is expected to use public investment to meet increasing demand and contribute to restructuring the transport market share on the North-South corridor in a sustainable manner.

The Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project is expected to diversify electricity supply sources, ensure energy security, and contribute to environmental protection.

8. Rapid completion of 500kV circuit 3 project

On August 29, the 500kV line 3 from Quang Trach (Quang Binh) to Pho Noi (Hung Yen) was inaugurated after more than 6 months of implementation, setting a record for the shortest investment procedures and construction time.

The project, designed and constructed by Vietnamese engineers, has special significance in many economic, political and social aspects, ensuring national energy security, overcoming local power shortages in the North, marking the national spirit, the consensus of the entire political system, and is a valuable lesson for implementing key national projects.

9. Passage of the Land Law (amended)

On the morning of January 18, at the extraordinary session, the National Assembly passed the draft Land Law (amended). Together with the Housing Law (amended) and the Real Estate Business Law (amended), the Land Law (amended) took effect 5 months earlier than the set deadline, meeting the requirements of synchronously perfecting policies and laws for the real estate market to develop stably and sustainably, and land resources to be managed and used effectively.

In 2024, the National Assembly also passed many important draft laws to remove institutional "bottlenecks", creating a favorable legal corridor for socio-economic development.

10. Launching 5G network, promoting national digital transformation

On October 15, Viettel launched its 5G network, marking the official presence of this service in Vietnam. As one of the pillars of the fourth industrial revolution, digital infrastructure, including the 5G network, has a strong impact on socio-economic development by promoting innovation and increasing productivity in many fields.

In 2024, Vietnam successfully deployed 49/76 essential public services on the National Public Service Portal, activated over 57.9 million VNeID accounts and created 32.1 million electronic health books for people.
