In the new school year 2024-2025, preschool children in Co To island district (Quang Ninh) are happier because the school campus has more vivid murals painted by a Hai Duong native.

The group of artists and the Tu Tam Volunteer Group with teachers from Dong Tien Kindergarten took a photo with the mural.

In the new school year 2024-2025, Co To and Dong Tien Kindergartens in Co To District (Quang Ninh) received murals drawn by Tu Tam Volunteer Groups (a volunteer organization operating nationwide). This is the first time these two schools have had murals drawn by artists from the mainland.

Mr. Steve Bui (from Ninh Giang, Hai Duong), Chairman of the Charity Fund by Next-G Foundation (For the Future), currently living in Hanoi, has accompanied the Tu Tam Charity Group in many programs. The charity fund by Next-G Foundation operates nationwide, focusing on building bridges, roads, schools, houses for disadvantaged areas, families with meritorious services, etc. Mr. Steve Bui said, “Coming to Co To Island, I saw that the students were much more disadvantaged than on the mainland, especially in my hometown Hai Duong, where there was more investment in facilities and spacious classrooms. Only by going there can we understand the difficulties and hardships in remote islands. We want to spread and share the love from the mainland to the children in disadvantaged and deprived areas.”

From the above cooperation, the kind-hearted artists of the Tu Tam Volunteer Group went to the island together, cleaned and painted murals to give to kindergartens in time to welcome children to the opening ceremony of the new school year 2024-2025.

Children at Co To Kindergarten enjoy the school's murals.

Witnessing the moment when the children happily received the gifts sent by the uncles and aunts on the mainland, Ms. Bui Thi Gam, from Ung Hoe commune (Ninh Giang, Hai Duong) who is living on Co To island, was moved and said: “Although the island district is developing, it still lacks facilities for students, many items are not yet completed to serve teaching and learning well. There are many people from Hai Duong living on the island. We hope to connect with many people, especially our fellow Hai Duong compatriots, to join hands to support the children in Co To”.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Principal of Co To Kindergarten, told us that when the children came to school and saw the murals, they exclaimed with joy, "Oh, what a beautiful painting! Why does the bear look like the one in the movie? What a beautiful flower!" Thanks to the paintings given by the artists, the children love their school even more.

When the murals were completed, the volunteer group was moved, especially when they saw the children cheering with delight. Ms. Nguyen Nhu Hao, Head of the Tu Tam Volunteer Group, shared: “I have cherished this idea for 10 years. I want to give meaningful paintings to the future young buds of the country. The themes of the paintings all revolve around introducing the country, the Vietnamese people, solidarity, family love... Through these paintings, the artists and the volunteer group can share meaningful stories and lessons with teachers and students."

Artists paint murals for kindergartens

Ms. Vu Thuy Dung, who has just graduated from the University of Architecture, is a member of the group of artists. She believes that in the city, children have a rich childhood world with many choices, but here, they still lack playgrounds, so it is very pitiful to see them. "I hope to return to Co To soon to paint more murals for schools here," Ms. Dung said.
