Willing to contribute to remote areas

In 2003, after graduating from the Hanoi College of Labor and Social Affairs, young man Vu Van Giang volunteered to bring his youth and knowledge to contribute to the people in remote areas. He applied to join the 16th Army Corps and was transferred to the 735th Regiment, stationed in Minh Hung Commune, Bu Dang District, Binh Phuoc Province. This is a remote, extremely difficult area, the workers are mainly ethnic minorities who migrated from the North in previous years and young people from other localities are recruited as workers for the unit.

Assigned to directly implement policies and benefits for workers, he applied the knowledge he had acquired at school and the actual tasks of the unit to help workers feel secure in their work, ensure employment, and have a stable income. In recognition of his efforts, he was admitted to the Party and changed his status from a defense worker to a professional soldier.

In 2013, he was transferred to Regiment 720, stationed in Dak Ngo commune, Tuy Duc district, Dak Nong province, taking on the role of Head of the Labor and Wage Department. Here, the majority of the workers are Mong ethnic people, who were assigned by the State, directly by the 16th Army Corps, to the regiment in 2002, organizing the resettlement of 312 households from the North who freely migrated to Dak Lak and Dak Nong.

The task was extremely heavy, difficult, and required an urgent need to promptly prevent deforestation for farming and encroachment. The vast majority of the people had limited educational levels, were Protestants; were influenced by many backward customs and habits; had no significant assets, had many children, many generations lived together, and women knew little of the common language... He actively promoted people to contract the unit's orchards, and at the same time promoted the elimination of backward customs, encouraged people to live a good life and follow their religion; lived hygienically; worked with local Party committees and authorities to build political and social organizations in residential areas and carried out the new rural construction program well.

Help people escape hunger and poverty

In 2020, Mr. Giang was appointed as Deputy Technical Commander of Regiment 720. In his new position, he always strives to help the Mong people feel secure in settling down on new land. Every day, in each garden, he kindly instructs workers on how to take care of coffee, pepper, cashew, durian gardens, and exploit rubber trees according to technical procedures... In addition, he and his unit have created good relationships with local Party committees and authorities. Therefore, every year, people in the regiment's project area always receive timely agricultural extension support programs such as support for trees and seeds to help people increase their income, gradually eliminate hunger and escape poverty.

He directly directed and worked with the unit to organize a nursery garden with more than twenty thousand trees/year to help people in the project area where the unit is located to renovate old coffee and cashew gardens, replacing old varieties with high-yield, drought-resistant varieties. In addition, he also propagated and guided people to make organic microbial fertilizer from locally available materials such as coffee husks, tree leaves, etc. to help reduce investment costs, contribute to soil improvement and environmental protection.

In addition, when checking the garden every day, he promptly trains the skills of rubber tapping workers in the area to help them have increasingly higher skills.

Mr. Lau A Do in Giang Chau village (Dak Ngo commune), herded a pair of fat cows from the field, smiling and boasting: "This cow was given to me by the 16th Army Corps, Giang soldiers gave it to me directly. I am very grateful to the soldiers, I will try to take care of the cows and coffee garden to earn money for my children's education to reduce difficulties and become a well-off family in the village".

Lieutenant Colonel Vu Van Dinh, Deputy Chief of Politics of Army Corps 16, commented that Lieutenant Colonel Vu Van Giang is a shining example in labor, work, and the core of solidarity between cadres and soldiers, and solidarity between the army and people in the project area of Regiment 720.

Having worked with the Mong people in the southernmost Central Highlands for more than a decade, he was affectionately called by the Mong people: Sung A Giang - "soldier" of the Mong village. He was awarded many certificates of merit, certificates of merit, and the title of "Grassroots Emulation Fighter" by all levels.
