Another Olympic Games, Vietnamese sports ended without any medals.
On the afternoon of August 8 (Vietnam time), rower Nguyen Thi Huong of the Vietnamese sports delegation entered the competition in the C-1 200m canoeing event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
She is the last athlete representing Vietnam to compete in this year's tournament.
This qualifying round has the participation of 33 athletes, divided into 5 lanes.
The two rowers with the best results in each lane will have a direct ticket to the semi-finals (competing on August 10). The remaining rowers will compete in the quarter-finals to compete for a ticket to the semi-finals.
In the qualifying round, Nguyen Thi Huong started in lane 4. She competed directly with 5 athletes: Corbera Munoz (Spain), Liudmyla Luzan (Ukraine), Katie Vincent (Canada), Eugénie Dorange (France) and Agnes Anna Kiss (Hungary).
With a modest result of 49 seconds 74, Nguyen Thi Huong ranked 6/6 and entered the quarter-finals (play-off) of this event.
The 22-year-old rower competed in the quarterfinals in the first heat with five other athletes and she went on to finish sixth in a time of 49.09.
In this round, only the top two rowers qualified for the semi-finals and therefore Nguyen Thi Huong was eliminated.
Thus, another Olympic cycle of Vietnamese sports ended without any medals.
