Smoke rises after fighting in Khartoum, Sudan on July 14, 2023

On August 13, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) denied information that it sent weapons through aid shipments to Sudan, while emphasizing that it "does not take sides" in the conflict in this country.

In a statement, UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs Communications Director Afra Al Hameli affirmed that "the UAE has not provided arms and ammunition to any of the warring parties in Sudan since the outbreak of the conflict".

The Wall Street Journal (USA) on August 10 quoted “Ugandan officials” accusing the UAE of transporting weapons to Sudan via Uganda on a plane carrying humanitarian aid for refugees on June 2.

Sources said that instead of the food and medical supplies listed in the plane's cargo documents, they found dozens of blue plastic crates filled with ammunition, assault rifles and other small arms in the cargo hold.

According to United Nations figures, the four-month conflict in Sudan has forced nearly four million people to flee their homes.

Since the fighting broke out, the UAE has sent aid including medicine and helped evacuate foreigners from Sudan.
