Korean media highly appreciates Vietnam's historic gold medal in Shooting

On the previous day of competition, shooter Pham Quang Huy performed excellently to win 240.5 points in the men's 10m air pistol individual event, thereby bringing the first gold medal to the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at the 2023 ASIAD. Ranked second was Korean athlete Lee Won Ho with a score of 239.4. Winning the bronze medal was an athlete from Uzbekistan with a score of 219.9.

Pham Quang Huy's achievements have been noticed by the Korean press. The Korean newspaper Asia Today stated: "Vietnamese sports won a historic gold medal in shooting at the ASIAD". The newspaper also mentioned the contributions of coach Hoang Xuan Vinh - a legend in the Vietnamese shooting community - and coach Park Chung Gun (Korean) in training Pham Quang Huy.

The article stated: "Pham Quang Huy followed shooting because of his parents' influence. Coach Hoang Xuan Vinh and Coach Park Chung Gun taught and guided Quang Huy carefully in the Vietnam National Shooting Team. Coach Hoang Xuan Vinh was also a student of Coach Park Chung Gun and he won the first Olympic gold medal for Vietnam in the men's 10m air pistol event at the 2016 Olympics. After that, Hoang Xuan Vinh became a coach and together with Coach Park led the Vietnam Shooting Team. Coach Park Chung Gun was present at the historic moment when the Vietnamese Sports Delegation won the first gold medal at the 2023 ASIAD and also the first gold medal in the history of Vietnam's Shooting at the Asian Games".

According to Asia Today, Coach Park Chung Gun "has led the Vietnamese Shooting team since 2014. After that, his students won the first gold medal for Vietnam at the Olympics (Hoang Xuan Vinh) and the first gold medal at the ASIAD (Pham Quang Huy)".

The gold medal in the men's 10m individual air pistol event that Quang Huy just won has quenched the thirst for "gold" for Vietnamese Shooting since re-integrating into the continental arena in 1982. A memorable milestone in his competitive career and more happily, Quang Huy still has many opportunities to create new milestones.

Quang Huy shared: "I'm not too worried, because this is my first final. I'm not self-conscious, but I'm not too confident either. What I care about is that I will step in and perform my technique. After 11 years of training, I'm happy with the ASIAD Gold Medal. This is the first major final competition I've participated in, luckily I participated in my first final competition and I won the gold medal."
