Two high schools in Phu Cat district (Binh Dinh) had to remove TVs and return parking lot construction money to parents because the collection campaign violated the voluntary principle.
On October 2, Mr. Dao Duc Tuan, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Binh Dinh province, said that after receiving public feedback, the department requested Nguyen Huu Quang High School and Phu Cat High School No. 3 (Phu Cat district) to correct and stop the practice of mobilizing and collecting money against the principle of voluntariness.
Previously, according to the reflection of some parents, the parent committee of Phu Cat High School No. 3 mobilized to collect money to buy televisions for teaching; the parent committee of Nguyen Huu Quang High School mobilized to collect money to build a student parking lot.
Immediately afterwards, Phu Cat High School No. 3 returned the televisions to the parents' representative committee of grade 10 students. Nguyen Huu Quang High School requested the parents' committee to stop raising donations and refund those who had contributed to the construction of the student parking lot.
Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong, Principal of Phu Cat High School No. 3, said that after receiving feedback, the school returned 5 televisions to the parents' committee.
Mr. Phuong shared that this campaign was not carried out by the school but by the parents' committee. The school did not implement it, did not call for it, and had thoroughly understood it from the beginning. However, many parents of 10th graders wanted their children to have better learning conditions, so they campaigned.
"Considering that the parents' campaign did not ensure the principle of voluntariness, causing negative impacts on the school and the education sector, the school returned it immediately," said Mr. Phuong.
