The Wall Street Journal reported on November 15 that the 47th leader of the United States met with Mr. Scott Bessent. This was their second meeting in just over a week. Along with Cantor Fitzgerald CEO and billionaire Howard Lutnick, Mr. Bessent is considered the leading candidate for the position of US Treasury Secretary.

Both Mr. Bessent and Mr. Lutnick have been running aggressively for the job, with allies of both sides offering their own defenses. The public and private campaigning has frustrated Mr. Trump and led to a lengthy internal discussion about his pick, with Mr. Trump considering several other candidates.

The transition team also discussed the cases of Robert Lighthizer, the US Trade Representative under Mr Trump's first term, and Marc Rowan, from the investment fund Apollo Global.

The two men were chosen to take on economic management roles in the cabinet, including the position of Treasury Secretary. Some advisers to the US President-elect said that once Mr. Trump has finalized the personnel for the Treasury Department, the remaining candidates will be nominated for other positions, including the director of the National Economic Council (NEC).

At the same time, Mr. Trump is also expected to soon announce his choice for the position of Secretary of Commerce. Sources close to Mr. Trump said the person most likely to be chosen is Ms. Linda McMahon, former Director of the US Small Business Administration (SBA).
