Chinese-owned social media platform TikTok has opened a long-promised data center in Ireland in an attempt to allay concerns in Europe about data privacy.
“Our first data center in Dublin, Ireland, is now operational and the transfer of European user data to the center has begun,” TikTok said in a statement.
The new data center will play a key role in further enhancing the protection of TikTok users’ data. The new European data center will bring tangible benefits such as faster data loading times, providing an even better experience for the TikTok community.
TikTok, which is particularly popular among young people and now has more than 1 billion users worldwide, allows users to create short videos ranging from 15 seconds to 1 minute. Since its launch in 2016, the app has been downloaded more than 2 billion times, making it the world's most popular social media platform.
