"Goalkeeper Dang Van Lam just signed a contract with the team's leadership yesterday morning, August 12," head coach Nguyen Viet Thang shared. "We are happy to have this top goalkeeper, this is a small advantage for the club next season to compete for a ticket to the V-League."

The contract of the Vietnamese national team goalkeeper with the new player of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth First Division lasts for four years, with a total value of 27.2 billion VND. Of which, he will receive half in advance. Dang Van Lam is currently negotiating a contract with Binh Dinh Club, then will train with Ho Chi Minh City Youth Club.

Dang Van Lam, 31, has been the top goalkeeper in Vietnamese football for the past eight years. He has been a regular for the national team since 2018, winning the 2018 AFF Cup, reaching the quarter-finals of the 2019 Asian Cup and the third qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup.

By the end of 2023, Van Lam will really have to compete for a position in goal when his colleague Filip Nguyen returns from Europe to play in Vietnam and has Vietnamese nationality.

Despite being trained at two famous Russian youth academies, Spartak Moskva and Dinamo Moskva, Van Lam struggled to find a place in Vietnamese football. He joined HAGL in 2010, but was loaned to Hoang Anh Attapeu Club of Laos. After that, Van Lam returned to Russia to play for two lower-ranked clubs, Duslar and Rodina Moskva. In 2015, he joined Hai Phong, taking more than a year to secure a starting position.

In 2019, Van Lam brought Hai Phong a transfer fee of 500,000 USD when he joined Muangthong United. Two years later, he became the first Vietnamese player to play in J-League 1 with Cerezo Osaka. In August 2022, Van Lam returned to Vietnam to play for Binh Dinh.

Ho Chi Minh City Youth Club, formerly the Ho Chi Minh City youth team, played in the Second Division and won the right to be promoted to the First Division in June. With the ambition of being promoted, they invited former assistant coach of the Vietnam national team Nguyen Viet Thang to be the head coach. The team also strengthened its squad with many experienced players such as Do Thanh Thinh, Do Van Thuan, Trinh Duc Loi, Le Ngoc Bao, Nguyen Huu Tuan, Dinh Thanh Binh, Le Minh Binh, Nguyen Duc Viet, Pham Gia Hung...
