Police warn that there is a trick of taking advantage of the tuition exemption policy for public school students to impersonate schools to call and notify of "tuition refunds" in order to appropriate property.
Hanoi City Police have just issued a notice stating that this is a sophisticated trick to appropriate property from students' parents.
The common form of fraud is calling and texting to notify the refund of paid tuition fees, then enticing the victim to provide personal information or perform operations according to instructions to steal bank accounts.
First, the scammer pretends to be a school employee, education department or bank employee and calls the parents.
They then ask for personal information, bank account, OTP code or access to strange link, scan QR code to receive money.

Scammers often call from unknown numbers, using urgent language to pressure or even threaten victims to quickly follow instructions. The fake messages often contain unclear links, asking parents to log in to strange websites.
The police advise people to absolutely not provide personal information, OTP codes, citizen identification numbers, images or videos of faces to anyone via social networks or phones. People should not scan QR codes, access strange links, or download applications of unknown origin following the instructions of strangers.
When receiving a notice related to tuition fees, it is necessary to contact the school or educational institution directly to verify the information. If detecting signs of fraud, people should immediately report to the nearest police station for support.
