According to the Korea Meteorological Agency, about 20 centimeters of snow fell in northern areas and near the capital Seoul. This is the heaviest snowstorm to hit Seoul in 52 years. The previous record snowfall in the capital was recorded on November 28, 1972, with 12 centimeters of snow.

The storm blanketed much of the country, with central, eastern and southwestern regions receiving between 10 and 23 centimeters of snow. The snowfall was followed by an accident in the eastern town of Hongcheon, which left one person dead and four injured. At least 220 flights were canceled or delayed at airports nationwide, while authorities ordered about 90 ferries to stay in port.

Hundreds of hiking trails have also been temporarily closed.

The Weather Bureau said snow will continue to fall in most areas of the country until noon on November 28.

In response to the situation, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has instructed the transport and safety ministries to mobilize all relevant personnel and equipment to prevent traffic accidents and other snow-related incidents. The president also asked officials to promptly provide weather and traffic information to the public to help people avoid snow-related damage and inconvenience.
