On March 14, a major snowstorm hit the US state of Colorado, forcing many schools and government agencies to close.
Highways leading to Denver were also in a similar situation as meteorologists warned vehicles could not travel on this route.
Sharing on social media, Denver Mayor Mike Johnston said he had never seen a storm like this in the past few years.
The storm began on the night of March 13 and is expected to last through March 15. The Front Range and Foothills are expected to receive heavy snowfall, with some areas receiving up to 4 feet of snow. Sections of Highway 70 in the Colorado mountains have been closed, according to the National Weather Service.
The storm began with rain in the Denver area and then changed to snow. The area is expected to see 10 to 20 inches of snow, with as much as 24 inches in the western suburbs. Denver officials deployed snow removal equipment starting at 3 a.m. on March 14 to clear the snow and clear major roads.
Denver International Airport remained open early on March 14, but according to Flightaware.com, at least several hundred flights to and from the airport were canceled or delayed.
The snowstorm comes as other parts of the United States are facing severe weather. Parts of Kansas and Missouri were hit by hail on the night of March 13, with tornadoes forecast in Kansas.
