Cam Giang town "communalized" twice

Coming to Cam Giang town on a day at the end of the year, we were amazed by the new look of a town with a history of nearly 400 years. The streets stained with time such as Vinh Quang, Doc Lap, Thach Lam... have now put on a new "outfit", spacious and modern but still not losing the unique features of the land that was once known as the "town of literature". Along Highway 196, high-rise buildings are springing up side by side.

Born and raised in this land, witnessing the development of his hometown, especially after Kim Giang commune was merged with Cam Giang town (old) into the current Cam Giang town, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tuan, 42 years old, in Zone 2, said that Doc Lap road through his hamlet used to be narrow, winding, and the road surface was paved with gravel. In 2022, the local authorities paid attention to renovating and expanding the road. The entire route was renovated, with sidewalks and a drainage system. "The urban appearance is increasingly clean and beautiful, the people are very excited," said Mr. Tuan.

In the period of 2019 - 2021, Kim Giang commune merged with Cam Giang town to establish a new administrative unit, Cam Giang town. After the merger, over the past 3 years, the locality has invested over 14 billion VND in building, repairing and upgrading many schools, roads, and cultural houses, contributing to improving the material and spiritual life of the people. In particular, since the merger, Cam Giang town has stepped up calling for and attracting investment in the area, including the inter-level school project invested by Hung Phat Joint Stock Company. This is a project of inter-level primary, secondary and high schools to reduce the burden on schools in the area, especially high schools. "The goal of the Party Committee, government and people of Cam Giang is to build the town into a civilized urban area," said Secretary of the Cam Giang town Party Committee Pham Thanh Tung.

From 2021 to now, the town has invested nearly 5 billion VND to renovate a number of streets such as Doc Lap, Vinh Quang, Chien Thang; reinstalled the lighting system; arranged public trash cans in residential areas; installed street name and house number signs in residential areas in Kim Giang commune (old). Along with investing in school facilities, traffic routes, and urban beautification, in early 2023, the town also invested nearly 10 billion VND to build offices for the Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee of the town. Notably, after the merger, Cam Giang town received attention from Cam Giang district to invest in many important projects such as upgrading and expanding the town's main road to district road 196; renovating and expanding road 19 through the area...

Cam Giang also focuses on developing services, trade, agricultural production, and improving people's lives. The town plans to develop a business area for used cars and machinery services in Trang Kenh, Kim Quan, Nguyen Khe areas and commercial services in areas 1, 2, 3... After 3 years of merger, the current average income per capita of Cam Giang town has reached 70 million VND (in early 2021, after the merger, it only reached 48 million VND/person).

New Expectations

In the 2023-2025 period, Cam Giang town is not subject to mandatory merger because it has been reorganized in the previous period. However, according to the overall plan and the approved project on reorganization of commune-level administrative units in Cam Giang district, Thach Loi commune will be merged with Cam Giang town to ensure the general planning goals of the district. Cam Giang continues to reorganize and merge towards building and developing the town according to the central urban model (with Lai Cach town), as the nucleus for spatial development to form a common urban system of the district.

According to the project, Thach Loi commune merged with Cam Giang town with a new name of Cam Giang town. After the merger, the future Cam Giang town will be 10.52 km2 wide with a population of nearly 14,000 people. Thach Loi commune and Cam Giang town are adjacent to each other, located on Highway 388, convenient for travel, have many similarities in customs, lifestyles... so the process of implementing the steps in arranging administrative units, local officials and people agreed.

As a native of Cam Giang town, nearly 60 years old this year, Mr. Pham Van Thang in Zone 2 has voted twice in agreement with the administrative unit arrangement of the town. “After more than 3 years of the new administrative unit coming into operation, witnessing many changes in the town, we are very excited. We hope that this new arrangement will continue to create momentum for Cam Giang to develop even more strongly,” said Mr. Thang.

It is expected that in 2024, Cam Giang district will invest in building Luong Dien - Cam Giang bridge, creating favorable conditions for people in the two localities as well as neighboring areas to travel. "We hope that the province and Cam Giang district will pay more attention to investing in the localities after the merger, especially the communes in the incentive list so that Cam Giang town in the future will truly be a central urban area, the nucleus of socio-economic development of the region", Mr. Pham Thanh Tung expressed.
