According to a representative of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, counseling and guidance on forcing students not to take the 10th grade entrance exam is quite fragile. If teachers do not act tactfully, it will cause parents to misunderstand. At the same time, it is necessary to consider specific situations.

During the counseling and career guidance process, teachers guide students with lower academic performance to choose to register for grade 10 at schools that are suitable for their academic ability. In fact, some parents guide their children to study at vocational schools or private schools right before the grade 10 exam takes place.

However, a representative of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training said that there were cases where the school forced the students to attend, causing parents to be upset. Therefore, for each specific incident, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has directed the education and training departments and schools to verify and take appropriate action with the goal of ensuring the best interests of the students.

From the 2022-2023 school year, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has requested heads of education and training departments of districts, towns and cities to thoroughly disseminate and direct in writing all junior high schools in the area to immediately stop mobilizing students not to take the entrance exam to grade 10 of public high schools and the following years (if any).

It is known that the Hanoi Department of Education and Training does not use the results of the 10th grade entrance exam for public high schools as a criterion for ranking the competition for units and schools in the city.

The Hanoi Department of Education and Training will continue to review and verify the reported incidents. If any unit or school is found to have committed violations that affect the learning and exam rights of students, the Department will strictly handle them.

Previously, a group of parents of class 9A4, Kim Giang Secondary School (Thanh Xuan, Hanoi) reported that at the parent meeting last weekend, the homeroom teacher advised against letting their children register for the entrance exam to grade 10 of a public high school because their academic performance was poor and they would have difficulty meeting the requirements. The teacher suggested to these families some secondary schools and vocational schools in the city.

Regarding this issue, Ms. Pham Xuan Oanh, Principal of Kim Giang Secondary School, said that she will meet with parents to listen to their feedback. The school will verify the incident, and if there is any, will report and strictly handle the teacher.
